One of the more common errors I see is writers confusing or simply misusing your and you’re so here is a quick ‘cheat sheet’ that was sent to me with thanks to the original (unknown) author.
Using correct spelling and grammar is so important when communicating with clients and each other!
| When to Use | How to Test | |
| You’re | When describing someone else | Replace “you’re” with “you are” |
| Your | When talking about ownership of something | Replace “your” with “my” |
Examples:
You’re:
1. “You’re my best friend.” Test: “You are my best friend.” (Correct!)
2. “I like you’re backpack.” Test: “I like you are backpack.” (Incorrect.)
Your:
1. “Your hair is so cool.” Test: “My hair is so cool.” (Correct!)
2. “Your going to meet me at 6 p.m.” Test: “My going to meet me at 6 p.m.” (Incorrect.)
