Your Editor has extensive experience across the entire range of both personal and business communications. Our services can be tailor-made to your projects’ needs with our level of involvement entirely up to you, discretion guaranteed. Some of our common requests however are listed below.

Copy Editing

If you are confident about the quality of your content but need someone to make sure it reads correctly and sounds professional, then a Copy Editor will suit your needs.

Copy editing addresses issues such as punctuation, grammar, syntax, spelling and consistency. Essentially, a Copy Editor will work to improve the quality and accuracy of the language in your project. Most people are amazed what a difference a competent Copy Editor can make to a piece of writing. Professional writers use editors for a reason.

Content Editing

“I know what I want to write – but I’m not very good at writing it.”

You need a Content Editor – someone who can help you with content, structure and readability.

Your Content Editor is generally more involved in the project with the level of involvement to be agreed at the outset. You might simply be looking for assistance and advice on how to approach the work to be done regarding structure and the information to include.

Alternatively, your Content Editor can work with you to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the existing copy and to provide direction to achieve a better result.

However, most people use a Content Editor to do the actual rewrite work as agreed and required to produce a better overall result.

Your Content Editor will address any issues to ensure that, among other things, your copy:
• clearly and concisely conveys your messages
• makes a convincing case or argument
• is appropriate for your intended audience
• is free of ambiguities or misinformation
• is in a coherent and logical order
• uses correct punctuation and grammar
Your Content Editor may also make recommendations about additional material that should be included to aid credibility or information that can be removed to aid clarity.

Verification Editing

A Verification Editor is usually brought in at the end of a project to assess what is effectively the finished product before it is printed or published. Your Verification Editor will look at the project with a ‘fresh pair of eyes’ providing what is sometimes known as a ‘sense and sensibility’ check.

This is essentially the last process of identifying and correcting any issues that have occurred as a result of the editing process. This is a final check with often only minor changes that will not impact the overall aesthetic.

The Verification Editor’s checklist will include:
• consistency in style for headings, fonts, colours etc
• any issues with actual typesetting such as spacing and word or line breaks
• ensuring photographs and graphics are correctly placed and captioned
• index, contents and page numbers correspond.

This part of the process will also provide a final spelling, grammar and punctuation check and will also look for ‘howlers’ like:
• repeated words, headings or paragraphs (a common result from the ‘cut and paste’ process)
• headline clashes on facing pages
• inappropriate text/image combinations on the same page
• corrupted text as a result of moving copy from one software programme to another.

– Consultation/Strategy: Social media requires strategic planning, creating content calendars and ensuring a management system is in place.
– Implementation: Creating accounts in-line with company style guides, branding and policy and initiating a following.
– Content Creation: Creating visual and written content suitable for mass distribution across multiple platforms.
– Training: Interactive seminar(s) with employees who want to learn about the platforms, appropriate interaction and effective management.
